Literature on the Jewish Labor Bund

Idea

Just as in any field, research on the Bund usually starts with questioning the existing literature. Unfortunately, despite the various debates and discussions, there is currently no comprehensive list that covers the historiography. These debates often drift their own ways, disconnected to other fields of Bundism. Bundist history is full of blank spots, whether it be discussions of the movement’s empirical history, or more theoretical elements. This, of course, has a lot to do with the general practices of historiography, which, in the words of Bund historian Jack Jacobs “generally speaking, is written by – or about – victors.” (Jacobs (ed), 2001, p. xi). But perhaps there is also a connection between the insularity researchers tend to work in, the subject’s difficult accessibility for many students and the marginalization of Bundism as a general historical topic in discourses outside explicit research on Bundism. If this is the case, we hope that bundism.net will help to bridge these gaps.

Practice

Our aim is to improve any research in Bundism with an open frame of mind. Therefore the bibliographic list below and the neighboring linklist are meant to become important tools for research and academic teaching alike. In this literature list we aim at collecting all titles closely related to the Bund, sorted by the year of publication and type. Right now we are entering all titles that appeared from 1997 until now. If this is set up, we will bit by bit expand the list backwards.

Naturally this is a project steadily under construction as we will try to keep the list up to date. For this purpose your help as a reader is worth a lot: If you find your or other publications unlisted, please notify us. We will insert them here with our sincere thanks.
